John Chapter 1

I have always loved the Gospel of John and particularly the first chapter, the first few verses.  They are so powerful.  “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”  What a way to start!  Jesus is the eternal God, the living Word, the Creator of the Universe and the Light of the world.  John left no doubt about the Saviour, no doubt about Jesus.

When we meet people we often present our credentials, we hand out our business card, we let people know who we are and what we do.  In these first few verses of his gospel John lays out Jesus’ credentials and it is a powerful message.  This Jesus whom John calls us to follow, to receive into our own lives, is none other than the eternal God who created all that exists.  I never get by the first few verses without having to stop and think that through. It give me goose bumps as I think about my awesome Saviour.  Many people think that Jesus was a great man, a great prophet of God, an incredible teacher.  All those things pale as we contemplate the truth.  Jesus is God incarnate.  What can I do but worship Him, obey Him and give myself totally to Him.
